Greenfields Greyhound Rescue collect their Donations!

Helen from Greenfields Greyhound Rescue came in to collect their proportion of goodies but got distracted with our nurse Siobhan by some of the squeaky toys. It took 4 of us to load it into the car so hopefully Helen has someone to help the other side!

Donation Station!

Well here are the pictures of the generous amounts our lovely clients have donated! a whopping 229 kg ( a man sized 16 stone 3 pounds ) of food for the three charities we are supporting. In amongst the food we found a card that stated to all the dogs in the situation I was 12 years ago best wishes from Tag. We have contacted the charities and will post pictures as they come but thank you everyone (especially Tag).

Case of the Month December 2013 - Norman The Mite-y Dragon

Norman is an 18 month old bearded dragon that was seen in November with  black dots all over his body. He was rubbing himself and making himself sore. He was very depressed because of all the irritation. It was diagnosed that Norman had a little mite called Ophionyssus natricis ......

We have been open a year!!!!

December 3rd its our birthday! We have been open a year read below to see what an amazing year we have had!

December 2012 – We opened on December 3rd and although it was a surprise we had people register on our first day. Theodore a Dogue de Bordeaux puppy was one of our very first clients. With Christmas coming some of our equipment was delayed arriving. On that first day Theodore was weighed on our cat scales as the dog ones were still in transit. Theo still comes to see us and weighs over 9 stone and is still growing- he certainly wouldn’t fit on the cat scales now!

January 2013 – Our first proper month of trading and things really started to come together. All the last bits we were waiting for arrived and everything came together. We had used the majority of our equipment apart from our new dental machine so we ran a dental promotion with 25% off all dental treatment which proved to be very popular. We were busier than we anticipated so employed our first two staff members Rina and Ceri who work on reception.

February 2013- February was a good month we saw lots of cats dogs, we have seen rabbits, guinea pigs and various reptiles. During February we saw to date our most unusual client when we were asked to treat a Llama with conjunctivitis. Even now lots of people ask about Rudy because we put his picture up on our website. He was very gentle but the funniest thing was that he arrived in the back of a car!

March 2013 – We employed our first Qualified nurse Siobhan. This turned out to be a godsend as it took the pressure off us as we are able to offer nurse consults. The majority of which are free but it meant we were able offer more health checks to people and routine treatments like nails clipping and emptying anal glands.

April 2013 – We held our open day in April, the idea was that people could come in look around the practice. We had laid on games and activities for children including face painting and playing at being a vet for the day. We hoped that people would come but were overwhelmed by the turnout. People were queuing for 15 minutes before the advertised start time and kept coming! The day passed in a blur ....

May 2013- We were the only practice in the area to support rabbit awareness week. We offered free nurse health checks on rabbits and then 25% off all treatments.

Delilah and Snuggles
We also welcomed our second nurse Olive to the practice. Olive as our only Welsh speaker settled in quickly and perseveres in trying to teach us welsh words of the week!

May also saw us welcome our 1000th registered animal Molly!

Molly - our 1000th animal!

June 2013 – Well to celebrate being opened 6 months we sent all our clients registered before June 3rd a voucher for money off all treatments. Our puppy classes became really popular and resulted in both nurses running their own puppy classes to help with puppy socialisation. We also celebrated national microchip month by offering microchips for £10. Due to requests from clients we also set up our internet prescription request form.

July 2013 - Our puppy classes became really popular and resulted in both nurses running their own puppy classes to help with puppy socialisation. The classes are free for any puppy that has had its second vaccine (even if we didn’t do the vaccines). We were lucky enough to have a really warm spell but we were over whelmed with clients having problems with fleas so we ran a 25% off all flea treatment promotion to try and help

August 2013 – August was a very exciting month for us. We published photos on our website of the puppy parties and had a number of clients say they have only ever had older dogs so we launched the after 8 club a free nurse health check for any animals over the age of 8 to hopefully advise and spot older animal problems. We went to various dog and horse shows to promote ourselves which was great fun.

September 2013 - Since our sponsorship with Llandudno football club September saw us trying to strengthen the relationship with them. We Planned a dog show and fun day at the football ground which was unfortunately cancelled due to the weather. However we started our client awareness evenings and held the first one in September at the football club in the club house. The football club put on a buffet and the evening was well attended. We were contacted by clients with requests for other evenings so this is going to be a regular monthly event. If there is a particular subject you would like to learn more about in relation to your pet please let us know.

October 2013 - Although it started to be dark and cold October was a good month for us. We had been offering acupuncture for a while now but it has become so popular that we launched it at a set time. With appointments every Tuesday. We also had a very interesting client talk from North Wales Reptile and Raptor Rescue (NWARR). Reptiles are cheap pets but very difficult to look after so we were grateful for the input, advise and experience from NWARR.

On a personal highlight Daisy a cat we had been seeing after being attacked by a dog was finally signed off in October some 12 weeks after the original attack. Poor Daisy had a large wound that was slow to heal and required lots of treatment, thankfully she was very patient and tolerant (so were her owners!).

November 2013 - We ran neutering November which proved to be very successful. We neutered cats, dogs rabbits, ferrets and even had a request to do a goat!

Due to client feedback we had a request to do a talk on senile problems in our pets which we did in November.

Senility Talk

A personal highlight for the practice was thanks to Molly Jones. Molly was the first dog to give birth at the practice. Molly had 4 puppies and all the puppies have stayed as clients of ours. We also have a client that visits all the way from Congleton in Cheshire who even left us our first Google review!

December 2013 - Here we are as of December 3rd we have been open a year. We have had an amazing year and have the loveliest clients so thank you to everyone for their support!
