Thank you to all that attended the ticks and fleas talk

Well tonight was our best attended talk (so far) we were expecting 44 people and there were 52 people there so a big THANK YOU to everyone that came out to join us!

The evening was sponsored by a pharmaceutical company called MSD and we wanted to also say thank you to Karland and Carol from MSD for their very interesting talk on Bravecto a new tick and flea treatment available for dogs that last 3 months. Our own Siobhan also got up and gave a bit of advice about flea checks and the nurse consults we offer and then helped answer some of the great questions our clients asked!

Everyone that attended got a free goody bag and a voucher for 25% off to trial the new treatment (bravecto for dogs and activyl for cats). If any clients were unable to attend but would like more information please contact the clinic If you look at the bottom photo we even had a special guest looking gorgeous in a red bandana!

Case of the Month May 2014 - Bets on for a lucky black cat

Betsi is a 4 year old female cat that was brought in over the first May bank holiday as an emergency. She was found by her owners  in their garden unable to walk or stand properly on her back legs.

When Betsi was examined at the practice, she was found to have scraped claws on her back paws and her right front paw. She had no other visible injuries but was not able to stand properly or walk on her back legs.

We were suspicious that she may have been hit by a car since scuffed claws are quite a common finding in cats who have been hit, as they dig their claws in to try to stop themselves from being moved by the impact. We couldn't feel any obvious fractures of her hind limbs themselves, but her pelvis felt a little unstable when her legs were moved ....

Bank Holiday opening

Well hope you are all gearing up for a good weekend, Derek the weatherman says Sunday should be sunny. Just as a reminder for our clients we have a normal Saturday clinic 9-12 and emergency clinics on Sunday and Monday 10-1pm, outside of these times there is a vet on duty so you can be seen anytime if required (hopefully not!).

Here's a photo to show how excited we are about the bank holiday ok it was trying to get a staff photo and these are the ones that didn't make the short list!

Have a good weekend.

Fleas & Ticks client awareness evening

As a valued client of Holmes and Murphy veterinary practice and we would like to invite you to our free client education evening on fleas and ticks. Not the most pleasant of things but we are expecting a very warm summer this year and last year we saw many clients that had problems getting rid of fleas.

The talk will be held at Llandudno Football Club opposite the practice at 19:30 on Wednesday 28th May. There will be a buffet and the evening is free. The talk will last about an hour and there will be the opportunity for questions.

There are a lot of myths about how long flea treatments last with most available over the counter in pet shops or the supermarket not being as effective. There has been a newly released product which is a tablet that lasts 3 months for ticks and fleas. This is a new product to the practice and there will be money off and other offers on the night.

We are anticipating this to be a popular evening and places will be limited so please phone the surgery on 01492 878581 if you would like more information or to book your place.

We would also like any requests for a future subject you would like to learn more about.
