Thank you from Greenfields Greyhound Rescue

We have had this lovely message from Greenfields Greyhound Rescue following receiving their part in the donation station

As Sarah said a few days ago, just before Christmas I received a telephone call from Holmes & Murphy asking me to collect Greenfields Greyhound Rescue's allocation from the Donation Station as there was so much people couldn't get into the surgery!

There is even more than in the photo that Sarah posted as there are also blankets and a huge duvet which I had already collected previously. I won't spoil Sarah's "Guess The Weight" question but there was a LOT of donations - dried food, tinned meat, biscuits, treats, Christmas stockings, bowls, bedding and a great variety of toys.

My foster dog Cadi has been a good girl keeping her teeth clean with the denta sticks! A HUGE thank you from Cadi and everyone at Greenfields to Holmes & Murphy for once again arranging the very successful Donation Station and to everybody who donated something - Holmes & Murphy officially have the best and most generous clients!!!

In the two weeks before Christmas we had to rescue 11 hounds who were going to be put down - Greyhounds, Lurchers, Whippets and a Saluki (plus an elderly Collie whose sad pleading eyes melted Hayley's heart and she couldn't leave him behind!, but he has now moved on to a specialised Collie foster home) - so this really will be a big help to us. Thank you so much. Happy New Year and Best Wishes to Everyone for 2015 from all the humans and hounds at Greenfields.

Donation Station!!!!!!!!!

Well hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and got everything you wanted. Yet again our wonderful clients have come up trumps!!!

Thank you to everyone who gave to the donation station (especially our very generous friends at The Milverton guest house).

Greenfields Greyhound Rescue collected their portion  but we are still collecting for North Clwyd Animal Rescue and Cats Protection until beginning of January.

For a bit of post Christmas fun can you guess how much (in weight) is in the Greenfields pile ..............

Case of the Month November 2014 - What Elsie could go wrong?

Elsie is a lovely 10 and a half year old Springer Spaniel that we knew quite well as a client. In the beginning of November she came in for her annual booster injection but during her check up it was noticed that Elsie was quite swollen on her left hand side so it to was decided to do some further investigation on Elsie ....

Elsie's story is here

October 2014 Case of the Month - Everything is coming up Rosie!

Rosie is 13 year old cat that came in for her booster a few months ago. The owner reported that although Rosie was eating very well she appeared to be losing weight. Rosie  looked well in herself but you could start to feel her bones so it was recommended to take a blood sample to see what was going on inside. Rosies bloods showed she had raised kidney enzymes and raised thyroxine levels. Thyroxine is the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland, a little gland located at the front of the neck ....

Rosie's story is on our web-site

Run Free Alliance - against breeding of Beagles for Animal Scientific Procedures

Morning all, Sherlock has been a very busy Beagle this month walking many miles in order to raise sponsorship and awareness for the Run Free Alliance - a group whose objective is to abolish the breeding for, and use of Beagles for animal scientific procedures and experiments in the UK.

We pledged to walk 120 miles this month and it looks as though we will complete the month with 125 miles logged. If you could find it in the goodness of your hearts to donate even just 1p a mile (£1.25) it will all add up.

Sherlock has perfected how to get his own way I hope it gets to you as it does me.

Please donate through paypal to rebecca.runfreealliance@gmail.com and put Sherlock or my name in the comments.

Thanks so much xxx

Pea Diddy (Poppy) has found her forever home!

Pea Diddy (aka Poppy), the Greyhound who featured as the August Case of the Month, has finally found her forever home. She moved in with her new owner Allison and new companion Spud the Lurcher on Monday. As you can see, she has already found the sofa and made herself comfortable! Allison also plays the violin and apparently it turns out that Poppy is a music lover! She sits beside her listening and then falls asleep!

Case of the Month, August 2014 Pea Diddy Didn't

Pea Diddy or rather Poppy who became known as Pea Diddy  is a five year old ex-racer who retired in March this year and then went to Greenfields Greyhound Rescue at the end of July.  We met her in August when she came in to be spayed and have her teeth done. Both of these are quite big operations but Pea Diddy was a very kind and gentle girl who showed no malice during her op or during her post op checks. Pea Diddy had 11 teeth removed in total but has a smile now that rivals Simon Cowells!

Pea Diddy's story is on our Case of the Month page

Rina's last day :(

Rina
Today (28th August 2014) is a very sad day for us as our lovely receptionist Rina is retiring. In fairness we dragged her out of retirement to help us when we opened the practice and then have been in denial ever since that she would leave us. If you see her today please wish her luck and tell her we will miss her. We received this lovely message is from her son ...

Today my mother is retiring from work. If I ever meet anybody who works as hard as she does I'd be surprised. She kept the farm going on her own for a long time, she had her heart broken by people who were lucky to be in her life ( I was there so I know what happened). She moans a lot, has her tantrums and absolutely lives her animals more than anything (this sounding a bit familiar?!). Not many people know she has a degree after studying in Bangor and the O.U. She paid off her student loan by cleaning the White Lion pub every morning.
She won't stop working - she still has her own cows to look after (she would never ever be without her cows!!). So if you see her about tell her congratulations on retiring and tell her she can do my ironing now....

Dog Show 2014 - Photos and Results!!!!

What a great day and we were very lucky with weather (unlike last year!).  A huge thank you to everyone for showing up to our dog show and to support our wonderful charity Greenfields Greyhound Rescue who you raised over £250 for!

You can see the photos of the day on either Google or Facebook.

Sadly several of these dogs were looking for a home when we had our (aborted) dog show this time last year.

Greenfields Greyhound Rescue at our Dog Show - Thank you

This gorgeous chap is Clyde the greyhound and he sent this message to us (WITH BITS IN BRACKETS FROM US!)

Clyde

On behalf of Greenfields Greyhound Rescue Clyde sends a MASSIVE thank you to Holmes & Murphy for a wonderful Dog Show on Sunday – for all their hard work organising the day and for very kindly donating the proceeds to us, to Lee for all his help and photos, to Cymru Ices for their donation, and to everyone who attended for their support and for some very generous donations. To date we have raised almost £260, with Sarah and Fiona generously giving us £150, and the possibility of more to come. We are a small rescue organisation so this is a huge help to us. Thank you so much.

Congratulations to all the rosette winners and all the entrants. We enjoyed meeting some lovely dogs – and people too of course! Clyde has just about got over his embarrassment of winning Dashingest Dog! (well deserved if you ask us!) And thank you to his young friend for helping him win the Musical Sit – but I’m afraid he failed to get her name!

Air Conditioning!

Just a quick thank you for your patience with our super hot consult rooms over the past few weeks but as of last night we have had the air conditioning installed.  We're sure its a coincidence that we wake up this morning to heavy rain and warnings of a possible hurricane!

We have also had air conditioning installed into the separate cat and dog wards.

A not very interesting picture of an air con unit!

Case of the Month July 2014 - A Grass Seed of Doubt

We've put up our case of the month for July 2014 about Sebastian, an 18 month old Shih Tzu.

As a breed Shih Tzu's can be quite prone to eye problems so it was no surprise to see Sebastian's name on the diary with a comment of sore eye ....

Woofs & Wellies Sponsored Walk for St Davids Hospice

We were very proud to sponsor the annual St. Davids Hospice woofs and wellies walk on Sunday July 20th. The walk took in some stunning views of Menai Bridge and after a very warm week the weather was dry but there was a nice breeze so it made for a very pleasant walk. It was nice to see some of our clients on teh walk and for those that weren't able to walk their dogs themsselves we had staff on hand to volunteer!
