Case of the Month March 2014 - Prudence Means acting with caution

Prudence is a 2 year old Standard Poodle that was brought in collapsed. Her heart rate was very low she was cold and unresponsive. The owner reported she had been fine in the morning and had gone like this very quickly over the day. The owner actually asked whether she should be put to sleep but we discussed the options with the owner and asked for 24 hours to see whether she had a chance. Prudence was admitted and a blood sample was taken while she was treated aggressively with fluid and medication for shock.
