NEW YEAR NEW BEGINNINGS

Well today is January 2nd and we have officially been open a month and what a month it has been. We have certainly been a lot busier than we thought and are already seeing repeat clients. We have also been very lucky with our clients, the owners have been lovely and so far none of our patients have tried to bite or scratch us :) .We bought a lot of new equipment and have already used the ultrasound machine, the xray machine and started doing physiotherapy which has all been very exciting (pictures to follow).

So a few statistics from our first month. The most commonly registered pets name is Ruby and our most popular client Surname is Bates although as yet we don't have a Ruby Bates as a client. Our clients so far are 80% of the canine variety, 18% of the feline variety and 2% of the reptile variety. We haven't got any rabbit or guinea pig clients yet but hopefully that will change.
So this first month has been a learning curve for both Fiona and Sarah but it has been a lot of fun. So in this first month :-
WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT
British telecom is on our unhelpful companies pile and we have learnt if you ever want to install a business phone line make sure you contact them 6 months before you intend to open.
Also thanks to gorgeous Theodore we learnt exactly how quickly Dogue De Bordeaux puppies grow in 2 weeks (and yes its a lot!)
BIGGEST SURPRISE
Arriving to find 6000 toilet rolls in our waiting room Fiona probably thinking what the hell has Sarah been ordering and Sarah thinking likewise about Fiona.Thankfully it was neither of us and we were just storing it for one of the local businesses who had ordered it.
MOST UNUSUAL REQUEST
Having to fit doggy pants. I tried to do this and was very unsuccessfully and then the owner had to help , then the owners wife, then Fiona so over all I shouldn't have helped. The worse thing is they are like normal pants just with a hole for the tail so no excuse really
HOPES FOR MONTH TWO
In month two we hope to use our dental machine, welcome more clients to the practice and hopefully finally get our phone line sorted!
Well so far so good for month 2, the free dental checks have really taken off and for those of you that aren't too squeamish here is a picture of Barney a cat before and after his dental. In the before picture you can see how sore his gums are which sadly resulted in him having so many teeth removed. The good news is that when Barney came in for his post op check his owner reports he has been like a kitten and playing now so he is definately better off without them and all the reddness has gone!
